Holiday Proposal in Conneticut

As a local Hartford moving company, we've heard plenty of creative proposal stories from local couples over the years. Every one is fun to listen to and uniquely special in its own way, but earlier this month a young man in Norwich pulled off a proposal that truly inspires the holiday spirit. The 22 year old strung up Christmas lights with his family just as he'd done every December, but this year was special. Rather than loop the lights around their fence, they carefully spelled out "Will You Merry Me?" in their backyard. Later that night he returned with his girlfriend and when they walked across the yard, his family turned the lights on to reveal the message. Although a date hasn't been set, the couple is very excited to start planning the wedding. Stories like this remind us what the holiday season is really about. From our Hartford moving company and our families to yours, enjoy a very happy holiday season.

Hockey in Hartford?

Hartford movers might see hockey fans and players calling in over the next few years, as resident hockey promoter Howard Baldwin has big plans to bring the sport back to Hartford, CT. Earlier today Baldwin revealed plans for a $105 million update to the XL Center.

This colossal investment has two main goals in mind for downtown Hartford. First, to make the XL Center a main hub of economic activity, and more importantly to bring an NHL team back to Hartford by 2017. Sketches of the plan are without a doubt impressive, and if you're a fan of hockey calling a Hartford mover sooner rather than later might not be a bad move.

For more on the sketches, see the full article in Hartford Business.

Driver Billed After Being Hit By Train

The Hartford Courant reported that a driver of a car that was stuck by a Metro-North train on Sunday, May 29 was billed for the damages the car caused to the train. Yes you read that correctly. A Metro-North spokesperson said, "the train was where it was supposed to be, and the car was not." Thus putting the blame of the accident on the diver of the car, a 40 year old woman who was driving with her 7 year old daughter. The family was enjoying a picnic near what is designated as a private crossing (crossings that do not have a gate or flashing lights, but trains are still required to blow their horn when crossing). A family that lives near the crossing said that they did not hear a horn before the crash, and they had complained about the trains horn not sounding before. Metro-North said that the horn had sounded. The 40 year old woman and her daughter were injured but nothing life threatening. The 100 passengers about the train were not injured but arrived late to their destination. Be safe, always look both ways when crossing a rail road so that accidents like this don't happen again.

Goofy Laws in Hartford and Throughout Connecticut

The Hartford Courant posted some of Connecticut's weirdest laws and ordinances. Here are some of our favorites:

- Silly string is banned in Southington
- In Hartford, you are not allowed to walk on your hands while crossing the street. (Makes sense.)
- It is illegal to educate your dog in Hartford. (Your dog will pee on your carpet and there is nothing that you can do about it.)
- Want to kiss your wife on a Sunday in Hartford? Illegal!
- Don't even think twice about planting a tree in the street.
- Think you're eating a pickle? Does it bounce? It doesn't? Guess what, Connecticut says, 'That's no pickle!'

Snowiest Month Ever Almost Over

January hasn't been the greatest month for moves, both residential and commercial. I am sure I don't have to tell you the reason why, but for those who have not left their house or bothered to look outside, this January is the snowiest month on record at 56.9 inches. Yes, 56.9 total inches. That's almost 5 whole feet of snow! The previous record was 45.3 inches and occurred in December of 1945. This month has eclipsed the previous record by 11.3 inches, close to one whole foot! If we can survive this month's weather, we can survive anything, right?
