UConn's campus shuttle buses talk to pedestrians now. Equipped with "Safe Turn Alert" technology it alerts pedestrians when a bus makes a turn. It also alerts the driver to look in both directions before proceeding with the turn. The Hartford moving company, Hartford Despatch, hopes this will prevent further fatal accidents, like the one that killed a pre-med student in 2011.
Although Hartford Despatch doesn't have this technology on its moving trucks, the drivers are educated on safe driving practices. The Hartford movers want to ensure its personnel, clients and passersby are safe during the entire moving process.
